Alleged Embezzlement - Frank Eggins, 24, a carman, of 38 Lillington-street, Pimlico, was charged with embezzling, on September 15th, 8s 10 1/2d, money received by him on behalf of his employer, James Irons, a laundry manager, of 25 Rampayne-street, Pimlico. The prosecutor said that the prisoner had been in his employment for about eleven months as a carman. Part of his duties was to collect money, which should have been paid in either to him or to the manageress the same day or next morning. There was a sum of 8s. 10 1/2d. due from Mr Wendon which had not been paid in. After the bill was sent in the customer rang up and said that he had already paid it. He asked the prisoner why he had not paid the sum in, but he said he had never had it. There were other cases against him, but he had no direct proof. Detective Dodd said yesterday afternoon he arrested the prisoner, and in reply he said "Yes, I am very sorry. This will break poor old mother's heart." When charged he said "Yes". A remand for a week was ordered.
